Today's selection brings you... Utah!  Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake, to be specific.  Taken two? years ago when I went out for my cousin's wedding.

I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much from Utah, but it was one of the most strikingly beautiful places I've ever been. It's a much different type of landscape than I'm accustomed to, so it really caught my attention.

Antelope Island is a huge island in the Great Salt Lake that you reach via a causeway. I forget if it's a state or national park. There are paved roads running all around it, and all sorts of hiking trails that we didn't have the time or the physical endurance to explore. Absolutely gorgeous.

My pictures from Utah are amusing. The light meter on my 35mm died right after the main lens came back from repair, and right before we left. A hand held light meter a) costs multiple hundreds of dollars, and b) is a special order that takes weeks. So I spent the flight out reading a little "National Geographic Guide to Photography" that had been kicking around for years, in an attempt to learn how to meter by the seat of my pants. Because it was a long flight, I just read the whole darn thing cover to cover, including the section on composition. It's the best batch of pictures I've ever taken in my life. Then when we got home I sent the camera out for repair.
