How many orange barrels/cones DOES the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania own?

A number greater than infinity!

Fewer than Cthulhu has tentacles. But not by much.

They seemed to be slightly more heavily coned off than usual this year. But we seem to have hit those zones at exactly the right times. Which was just as well, with an infant in the car!

Eh? Huh? Wha-...?

I don't have an answer, obviously.

It's one of those "you have to have been there" sorts of jokes. I-80 in Pennsylvania has been perpetually under construction since the dawn of time, as far as we can tell. There's a joke that the Pennsylvania state motto should be "Be prepared... to stop." There seemed to be slightly more construction zones than usual this year.

Must be stimulus dollars at work.

In the 25 years I've been on I-80 for one reason or another it has never been cone-free.

I *have* seen it cone/barrel free - they seem to shut it all down during deep winter (which makes sense.) Of course, that may have changed since I last drove I-80 in deep winter over a decade ago.

Ah. Never was on 80 in winter. Perhaps I should take a drive to Ohio just to see the novelty of a cone-free I-80.

Personally, I don't find Ohio to be that enthralling any longer. :-)

On the other hand, seeing the Serengeti empty, covered in snow *but with the snow sticking to the grass but melting off the Pennsic roads* is surreal. I forget where we were going that we went past Cooper's Lake on I-79, but I wish I'd had a camera.

I *will* say that I-80 in the fall when the leaves have turned or in the spring when the flowers in the medians are in fully bloom is breathtakingly beautiful.

I've always said, "I-80 in Pennsylvania is under construction."
