Garden Discoveries

Amongst other things this weekend that I'll chat about later, today I got out into one of the gardens, ripped out dozens of lilies, planted the hostas from my mother, gave one of the forsythias a severe haircut, and cut all the deadwood out of one of the hydrangeas.  I trimmed a branch on the pine tree that's growing off the edge of the deck, and was going to cut out some dead areas when I spotted this:

Four little blue eggs in there.  I backed off quickly, and mamma robin came back a bit later.  We're going to leave that corner of the deck in as much peace as possible until they're hatched and gone.  Not sure if I'll be able to get close enough to get more pictures, but we'll see what we can do.  Maybe the 35mm with the telephoto, but you won't see those until I use up the roll of film.

Isn't that charming! There are few things in nature as perfect as an egg...I love bird eggs of all sorts. I don't know why...I guess I just do because their shape appeals to me. I love seashells too, for the same reason; they are so perfectly shaped and visually pleasing to me. That probably sounds weird.

Those colors are my favorite combination by the way. :-)

Aren't they adorable? It's startling how vividly blue they are.

For the rest of the afternoon mama was giving us the hairy eyeball. She's always keeping one eye on that door. "Don't get any funny ideas - I'm watching you..."
