Stuck in My Head

Today on my lunch break I drove to Wallingford to drop off a large donation of clothes at the Salvation Army.  To do so, I went to their website to get the address and a map.  Prominently featured on the left side of the page is the phrase "Doing the Most Good."

This immediately caused a synapse to fire and make me think of the phrase "doing well by doing good."  Which is why I now have Tom Lehrer's "The Old Dope Peddler" stuck in my head.  I can't even get it out with the Beatles or Abba.

Luckily, it's obscure enough that there is probably only one person  in the entire department who would have a chance of recognizing it, so it's okay that I can't stop humming.

Tom Lehrer
On the other hand, I think it freaked out the guys M hired to help on the first moving day when 90% of my friends knew all of the words to "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park."

Speaking of Abba, go see "Momma Mia." It's worth the price of admission to get to see Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth in BRIGHT royal blue, spandex jumpsuits a la Earth, Wind and Fire. Silly fluff, but an absolute blast!

There's a lot worse things that could have gotten stuck in there.

Donations of clothing is a great way to help out. In fact, as I'm here in Djibouti that's a big part of my ministry. People send over clothing for the babies and orphans which we distribute.

You, my dear, have known me long enough to know that many things that *are* far worse have gotten stuck in there from time to time.

Taking a car full down to the Salvation Army is very satisfying in one of those "everyone wins" sort of ways. I get a receipt for my taxes, they get saleable goods to fund their goals, and things that have no business in a landfill continue to be used. Kind of difficult to go wrong.

Good to hear from you - it brightened up my day.
