Pay Attention Boys and Girls

This is important.  To me, at least.

Many of you have heard me talk about my friend Andrea in Buffalo (Meredith the Maskmaker,) and several of you realize that if you want to find me at Pennsic it's actually easier to find me at her booth (Merimask) than it is in my own camp.  She's an amazing self-taught artist who works with tooled and shaped leather, and has been a dear long-distance friend for probably 20 years.  You've probably seen her masks, belts, circlets and coronets, and if you don't actually own one yourself there's a pretty decent shot that you know someone who does.  Treasure those, by the way.  She's well on her way to leaving the gritty days of SCA events and craft shows behind, as she is now represented in *galleries*, including Rumors in the French Quarter of New Orleans.  She also has a successful shop on Etsy where you can purchase her work on all the days when it isn't Pennsic.

But that's not why I'm rambling on, although I highly recommend her art to anyone and the wholesale prices on Etsy are much better than the galleries.  Andrea's high-school-aged daughter Charlotte has been offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in an exchange program to Japan.  She's a cute kid who is kicking butt in school, and the trip is a marvelous educational/fun chance that most high school students just don't get.  But you can just imagine what it's going to cost.  So with the goal of defraying the costs of a trip that she's going to make possible for her daughter come what may, Andrea has set up a corner of her shop called "Kitsune for Charlotte."  Every penny that comes into that section goes into the travel fund.  These are special designs (with an oriental theme) that she's making especially and exclusively for this fund-raiser.  They will be available only for so long as the section is open, and then the patterns will be destroyed and that's it.  Say goodnight Gracie.

There's little things, medium things, big things.  Things for every budget.  Things for yourself or things for gifts.  Key fobs, barrettes, masks, and possibly the most amazing wall sculpture you've seen in a long time (if you're feeling particularly affluent.) If nothing strikes your fancy, check back.  More pieces are being made.  If you have an idea, contact her - she's very friendly.  It's never too soon to tuck away those stocking stuffers for next year!

I don't mean to imply that I'm trying to make you feel obliged to buy, but I would like you to take a look and see if anything strikes your fancy.  If her work doesn't strike your particular fancy but would be just the thing for a friend, please pass the link on.  I want all my friends to be happy and successful.  And I want Charlotte to go to Japan.

This has been an unpaid, charitable announcement.  We now return you to your regularly scheduled ramblings.
