Assembly finished!

This afternoon she finished putting the chemise together.  I did the pinning, but she did all the sewing - including setting the sleeves.

To be clear, this chemise has four gores in the side seams, and armpit gussets.  Charlotte did all the sewing.

She's also clear on the fact that all the rest of the seams need to be hand finished.  She's not keen on the idea, but she knows it's necessary, and she's raring to go.

I just can't believe it.

Yes, it's wicked big, but you don't really think I'm going to go through this every six months, do you?  Deep hems, my friend.  It's all about deep hems.

I have... mixed feelings about sewing. I like making "stuff." I love piecing quilt tops - picking out the colors and patterns, and seeing it all come together. Assembling it afterwards? Boooorrrrring.

I sew my skirts because I can't find ones that fit me the way I like in the store. I sew my garb for the SCA because there isn't really any other option. I do *not* enjoy it, because, well - fitting. And working with linen and finishing the seams so they don't ravel is infuriating. I like *having* the clothes, but I rather despise making them.

Fitting busty women is something I've never gotten the hang of. For historic clothing it completely flummoxes me, because they weren't using darts in the centuries I'm interested in. For modern clothes, well, I'm not very good at darts. It's definitely tricky, so it's not something with you.

I don't mind cutting. Hate pinning.

I *am* tickled that Charlotte wants to learn things. She's starting to help with dinner - she "helped" me make banana bread last night. They're just starting to learn cursive in school, and I promised her that once she learned some cursive, mommy would teach her calligraphy. We'll see how that goes.

Maybe Charlotte will learn sewing really well and, having learned so early, will be great at it and can take over for you. :)

One of my fondest hopes... :-)
