Holy crap! Food science.

I made butter!

Okay, okay, I know it's easy, and probably most of my friends have done it, but I just made my first butter.  There was a merchant with churns at Balfar's Challenge, and I bought one.  Tonight I got around to doing something with it.  I made butter!  It was easy.  And so cool!  Then I made biscuits with the buttermilk.

Next I'm going to make cultured butter.  Just because I can.

Cultured butter is easy...
Just leave the churn filled and on the counter during the summer. At least, that's what happened with the butter bell I bought from him last year at Balfar's! :-D

That's some of what I did - at his recommendation, I took the cream out this morning and let it sit while I was at work, then churned it when I got home. (In the oven. Because Henry is a shit.)

*I* want to try the bit where you add a culture (I'm going to go for whole-milk yogurt) and let that puppy ferment for 48 hours. If I get really hooked on it, I might go online and get fancy culture.

Just so damn cool. I'm easily amused.
