I've been threatening on here to dust off my drawing board and get some work done for over a year now.  I actually did back in November, but only just extracted the photos from my camera.  This is an indenture that I did for vynehornand her protoge.  The text is lettered twice on each side of the paper, upside down to each other.  Both parties sign both sides, and the copies are cut apart in a wavy or jagged line in between and each party keeps one.  That way if there are any disputes, the copies can be reunited to see if the cut edges match.  It's one of the coolest projects that I've worked on for a long time.

That is really really cool. The calligraphy is so distinctive. I love the shape the figures make...it looks like icicles.

The tall squiggly bits on the first line are called cadels, and I'm not very good at them yet although I'm fairly pleased with how these came out. To really do it properly, they should be planned out ahead of time, but I was trying something different with this piece. I was approaching it as a working document that someone would have hired out a scrivener to do as piecework. Something that would be solid but not fancy - bread and butter work. So it's got that bit of embellishment, but not too much. It's a whole different way of approaching it, and it was really neat.

I've got an assignment for 12th Night - I'll post pictures afterwards. I'm finally getting back into it.

Wah, calligraphy. Calligraphy is very sexy...too bad my handwriting is atrocious. (Seriously, I'm one of those people who print-writes. I write K's and A's but print r's and i's...etc.)

My dirty little secret? My handwriting is so bad that it's fairly illegible. I'm actually making a conscious effort to work on it, it's so bad. It's hilarious to watch people watch me scribbling notes. "You can do *that*... but your writing looks like *that*..."

Luckily the folks at work have learned to decypher my chicken scratches on the messages I take.

Calligraphy is fun. I used to do a LOT, and I'm easing back in after a sabbatical.

That reminds me that I need to get color copies made of both sections.

Re: Ack!
No rush - I know you're good for it! That really was one of the most interesting calligraphy projects I've done in a long time. I'd like to do more stuff like that.
