Fun with socks

Target periodically has seriously cute kid's socks in the bins with the dollar crap, and some time back they had assorted socks with themes from "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."  One pair has cuffs - the socks themselves are caterpillar striped in green and brown, and the cuffs are red with the eyes and nose like the caterpillar's face in the books.

A couple of days ago she put that pair of socks on.  She doesn't quite "get" cuffs on socks, so I usually have to fix them - and in this case if the cuffs aren't turned down, you don't see the caterpillar's face.  She put on the socks, fetched her shoes, and sat on the stool for me to tie them.  She had pulled the socks as far up as they would go, and pulled her leggings down over them.  I started to pull the leggings off and cuff the socks.

"No mommy!"
"I have to turn the socks down so that you can see them."
"No mommy - they're in a COCOON."

It always startles me when she makes these connections, although it shouldn't.

I LOVE your daughter. You do realize you're as totally screwed as my brother, right?

There's a reason the little girl loves your daughter...she recognized a kindred spirit.
