Holy disappearing geography, Batman!

I was poking around on Google Earth this evening (because that amuses me,) and I looked at the house I grew up in.  It's in the lower left, marked with "A."

Do you see the long narrow park north in the middle?  That wasn't there when I was living there.  That was a CANAL.  The hydraulic canal, to be precise.  It was part of a system that brought hydroelectric power down from the West Canada Creek, and even when I was a kid it was substantial.  Overgrown, yes, but all fenced in, and, well, the depth of a canal.  The street was a bridge when I was a kid.  Dad and I went through the chain link and he showed me the canal, and the old egg crate factory it used to power, and there were frogs!  Hey - frogs are cool when you're seven.

I can't say that I'm upset, per se, but it's really disconcerting when major geographic features... vanish.
