Wish list - are you listening universe?

When Bob has a job again - and I need all of you to think really, really, really good thoughts for that for a few days - there are some things that I want.  Okay, there are lots of things that I want, but this is the short list.
  • Some new bookcases from Ikea.  I've got perfectly workable bookcases, but I could do better.  Right now the paperbacks are stacked double deep in order to actually utilize all of the air space inside the bookcase.  That's efficient for storage, but not for browsing or access.  Ikea will sell me extra shelves that will do the job much more nicely.  It'll look nicer also.  This particular desire is a splurge - about $500 for all the pieces I want, but I really, really want to redo that corner of the library.  It would be so cool.  Also, in the course of reshelving them I could scan them into LibraryThing AND weed out the ones I don't want any longer.  Oh - and I could dust them.
  • Brakes for my car.  They've been making alarming noises for a while now, although my husband claims not to hear it.  They're not squealing, but I just feel like the car needs to go visit the mechanic.  Yes, I know that putting brakes *after* bookcases is probably not prudent.  It DOES say a lot about the kind of person I am, though.
  • Teeth cleaning for Nishka.  Much as I hate to subject an almost 15 year old cat to anesthesia, she really needs her teeth cleaned.  They don't appear to bother her, but the plaque is bad and her breath is terrible.  Unfortunately her bloodwork expired a few weeks ago, so it'll be not one but two very expensive visits.
  • Molding/casing for the downstairs bathroom.  It's been a construction zone for a while, and it would be nice to have it done.  Possibly even a proper door with a door knob!  That puts it into the Master Plan (Doors) list though, so it may need to wait a bit longer.  Doors are expensive, and we need a lot of them.
  • Heavy duty shelves for the basement to store the pavilions and such.  We were actually going to do that earlier in the winter, and then the Bilco door got covered with a few feet of snow.  That'll have to wait until the snow thaws and the mud firms up.
  • A swingset for Charlotte.  Mom told me to get one last fall, but I don't want to get one until I know that we get to stay in the house.  Then I can pick one out and Grandma and Grandpa will get it for her.
It's a small list - it only adds up to a couple thousand dollars...

Make you a deal. I'll send you guys good job thought karma if you send us good job thought karma. Dave actually has a nibble right now and we could use all the positive karma we can get.

Good job Karma to both of you! :-D
On teh subject of old cats & teeth, check the replies to my post last Firday. Apparently there are some OTC pet products that may help... I too am reluctant to subject my old girl kitty to surgery :-(

Re: Good job Karma to both of you! :-D
That's very good to know. I do need to have it done though, because her teeth are starting to disappear into the plaque - my vet actually recommended that I make the appointment with the other vet in the practice because he does all the extractions. That way if the teeth are in bad shape under there he can extract them on the spot and not subject her to a second sedation. But once they're squeaky clean again, it's worth looking into.

:: good thoughts :: good thoughts :: good thoughts ::

Believe it or not, I've seen people giving swingsets away on freecycle -- those $1000+ trendy wooden playscapes even. Might be worth a look-see?

If "free" won't do...
I have a friend in Danbury who can build most anything. anarra knows his work; he re-welded their trailer ;-D

And an EXCELLENT job he did, too!

Dad gave ours away. (A swingset attached to a slide with a little wooden 'house' above the slide that you climb to, up the back. And I think the bit over the swings is actually monkey bars.) You usually know people who have kids and you (well, we, anyway) would rather just give it to them and see their kids have fun with it than get someone to pay you $200 for it or whatever greatly depreciated amount you could snag. And it's better than having to pay money to get it taken away as garbage :)

PS: If you're not in it for looks, it's true...making your own swings is really easy. And in your yard you could even just use a tree as the frame.

I'm actually looking for something much smaller and simpler than is currently popular - we don't have much yard, and really all I want is a swing or two and a slide.

I think there's definitely going to be a home-made swing back in the trees when she's a little older, though.

I know what you mean - I'm having much more fun giving Charlotte's outgrown clothes to a friend with a younger daughter than it was giving them to the Salvation Army and taking the tax write-off.

I'm pretty sure they won't be what I want - you've seen our "yard." There's no room for the currently popular playscapes.

Besides, Grandma *really* wants to get her a swingset.
