Toddlers Love Cherry Tomatoes!

I'm so happy to see my kid learning to eat things that I won't.  Yesterday for the workshop on the Bayeaux Tapestry stitch, Andrea brought a veggie platter.  Since we were home with lots of changes of clothes available, I let her have a tomato.  She promptly gorged herself on tomatoes and broccoli.  Turned her nose up (violently) at cheesecake.  She never ate a bite of her birthday cake either.  I have a kid who won't eat cake, and begs for vegetables.

Wow is this a good thing.

In other food-related news, I'm learning to love wheat bread.  Baby steps...

She's a kid after my own heart. I ate my veggies before anything else!

It's particularly amusing because at her 2 year checkup last week, the pediatrician commented "I'd talk to you about nutrition, but we both know that at this age they eat what the want and absolutely won't eat what they don't want."

Mine wants veggies! I'm so pleased...

I think some of it had to do with my mom. She tells me I'd fuss over certain things. She'd put it on my plate and not make a fuss about it. Naturally, being a curious toddler, I'd eventually try it and like it. Smart woman.

That's kind of what we're doing. She gets whatever we're eating. If she eats it - fine. If not - fine. I'm not going to let the dinner table become a battleground. I figure we offer enough things at dinner that there's going to be something she can fill up on.

Pretty much if she sees US eating it - she wants it. This is doing wonders for MY diet.

Oh gawdz...

My ex's aunt had NINE, count 'em NINE kids. She catered to each of them. I don't know how that woman a) cooked enough of enough different things to feed all and b) didn't loose her mind.

Her sister, my ex MIL was of the "eat or starve" mode. A much better approach.

My husband looks at our 3yo and say "Oh good, then I get to have it all!" And I say "Hey, no you have to share with me!"
Him: "I don't want to share!"
Usually by this time she's grabbed a piece of the "forbidden" food.

Reverse psychology...gotta love it.
