Just caught the end of the last Godzilla remake.  It was a fun movie when we saw it.  Not Godzilla, but fun nonetheless.  This morning I discovered that it has lost much of it's pleasure for me.  The visuals of smoking rubble in Manhattan were still more disturbing than I would have guessed them to be - even almost ten years later, and knowing that it's just a monster movie.

I guess it's going to take a while longer yet.

Yeah... I know what you mean.

I remember when we saw it in the theater and the line "that wasn't a negative impact - that was the Chrysler Building!" was hilariously funny.

I had inklings when they were trying to get a call out but couldn't because the lines were jammed, and then the shot of the smoking, shattered ruins of Madison Square Garden from street level hit me somewhere around the small intestine.

On Friday I would have claimed that it wouldn't bother me - that was ten years ago. I've been wrong before.

I could see the smoke from my apartment. The scene from "When Harry Met Sally" and they're having dinner at Windows on the World is just jarring for me.

But I'd expect that to be coming. "Godzilla?" Didn't see that punch in the gut coming until after the fact.

I had trouble with Cruise's War o' the Worlds for the same reason. And skipped Independence Day when I spotted the disk at the library.

Haven't seen either of them, and fairly unlikely to at this point. Also, I'm still irritated about the amount of time I put into the use of marks agreement to have them say "never mind" at the last minute. :-)
