Reflections Upon Turning 40

I was planning to put up a long, thoughtful post, but I just haven't been able to come up with anything coherent.   Ten years ago, thirty really sucked - I got a speeding ticket, the next day my car broke down, the day after that I lost my job, and the day after that I turned thirty and Bob forgot it was my birthday.

I guess I have to say that forty has been better - I didn't get a speeding ticket, and I still have a job.

<sigh> Perhaps at this rate I'll have a good milestone birthday at 60.  'Cause so far they've all *sucked.*

You could try what I try...never celebrate ANY birthdays :) I was raised not to (religiously) and my bday often passes without even ME remembering it. My bday is of no special note in my mind so I never even think of whether they're good or bad days.

So your car is in trouble and Bob forgot your birthday again? You'd think after forgetting 30, he'd be desperate to remember 40. -_-

Bet you didn't think you'd have a newborn (almost) baby for this birthday back at your 30th.

I'm starting to believe that you may be on to something there. It's something I've always enjoyed, but they've been becoming progressively more disappointing as the years go on.

The car blew an alternator - $671.62 later, it's fixed. But it was all very exciting for a while...

He didn't forget, he more ignored it.

On the bright side, my mom *outdid* herself on my lemon cheesecake this year. Yum!

I think 25 was the last "cool" birthday I've had.

Glad your Mom made it merry. In a few years, mayhap Charlotte will supply drawn pictures and such.

At this stage, only my kids want to make a big deal of it. And birthday presents tend to fall into the necessities category. (At this point getting a good dye job is a necessity as is new brakes for the car.) We do go out for dinner but that's about it.

By the way, happy belated. I've got it marked down in about 10 different places, but that just means more opportunities not to see the reminders.
