More old projects

The problem is that I'm not working on the NEW projects, but - screw 'em if they can't take a joke.

Here's the center pole of the pavilion.  I painted the body of this years ago, figuring that, well - we were done.  Then we got more awards.  Me, a few.  Bob - a lot.  Hey - how was I to know?

Here's his:

In a way, I got kind of lucky.  I like having the Kingdom awards together and the Baronial awards together, and he had the White Oak long before the maunche.  Since the badge changed when we actually registered it, I needed to strip it off anyway, so I shuffled them around.

His arms are a pain in the ass.  Because they're geometric, you can see at a glance if they're not perfect.  Then the Kingdom stuff - Sagittarius, Dragon's Barb, and Maunche.

Barony stuff: White Oak, Sun and Soil, Holly, and Defender.  As far as I can tell from the Baronial records, he's the only person to hold all four.  Clearly I need to take up archery or something.

The Baronage stuff: his court barony, and the landed coronet.  As an aside, that IS the baronial coronet, and the court one is a representation of the ones we've commissioned.

Mine.  Sign of a mis-spent youth.

My arms are a pain in the ass because - well, look at them.  Oy.  But hey - it's a colt fire-arm!  I'm also not the best painter of the Laurel or Pelican, but one does what one can.

The Kingdom stuff: Maunche, Silver Crescent, and Queen's Order of Courtesy.  Her Grace Gabrielle tells me that was for "grace under pressure."

The Cyphers - two Queen's (Luna and Mouradh,) and one King's (Balfar.)  As a point of trivia, I received the very first King's Cypher ever given in the East.  His Grace thought I might enjoy that.  He was right.  :-)

And the Barony stuff.  I'm missing one.  I clearly need to step up my game.  No court barony for me.

I hate working with acrylics, but I'm reasonably pleased.  It's a tent pole after all.

Um, yikes?
Pretty sure Herself and I would settle for just having pretty colors painted on...

In my addled state yesterday I seem to have forgotten that. I stand corrected.

Very impressive! I don't think I ever noticed them before.

I never showed that off to you? Huh. Oops. Well, you can critique it in person in a few days.

Looking at all those little badges fills me with a peculiar, hard-to-name feeling I first got last year when I told Andrea that the Silmarilion is better than Lord of the Rings. (I love LotR, don't get me wrong, but the Sil is just so much more...epic.) and she responded by laughing and saying that I *belong* in the SCA.

My response to that was basically 'Duhhrr?', because I didn't get it. (Still don't.) But it certainly sounds like its own world. The million complicated little badges tell me the same thing. I don't get it at all but it sounds like a busy, complicated...should I say hobby? Or more like lifestyle? Sounds interesting. And kind of exhausting, heh. :)

I think the cyphers came out *really* well. One of the things that would dissuade me from every totally stripping the pole and starting over is that I'm not sure those would ever come out as good again!

I had to laugh because I refer to it as a "lifestyle hobby." It's fascinating. The people, like in any organization range from amazing to infuriating. You can play at any level from casual to full out. I tend to go full bore - and you're right that it's exhausting.

Fun, though.
