Okay, we did our bit

Yesterday we filed some assorted paperwork.  They say that God helps those who help themselves - well we've taken an unpalatable step, so some assistance from a universal power would be much appreciated.

In other less dramatic news, the fish is dead.  Long live the fish.

Sign up for anything you qualify for. You've paid into the system over the years and it's not handouts.

I've been trying for a year or so now to get my friend to fill out paperwork for food & fuel assistance. She refuses to do it. I keep telling her that she's paid into the system either directly through taxation or sweat/toil for the employer who then paid taxes into the system. She'll have none of that. So instead she's started to "ration" food to make it stretch the week. It makes no sense to me when there's help available for her.

You know... I hadn't looked at it like that.

THANK YOU.

That sucks on both counts. I hope it gets better.

Have you considered another type of fish? We have had very good fortune with red platys--you'd need a bigger tank, but they are hearty.

We're struggling through new tank syndrome. I don't want to give up the room for a bigger tank. But once the nitrites settle down, I expect it to go well. I just need to remember to keep testing the water.

That was cryptic (understandable for a public forum)...I'll read between the lines and keep my fingers crossed and my eyes peeled at CorporateOverlord. Have himself drop a line offlist if he's widening his net.

My beta lived over a year, but I was using a 5-g tank. That's MUCH larger than the petstores claim it needs. And I used a filter because I'm too lazy to change the water often enough. We've also had luck with the fish V netted at Bantam Lake--it's finally big enough to tell it's a rock bass, and it's jumping so we need a still larger tank to keep the area from getting wet. Yick. On the plus side, we have fewer houseflies than other years...

Betta only last about two years, and who knows how old they are when you get them. Once I get past the new tank syndrome we'll be good. When I (belatedly) tested the water the nitrites were WAY high. Two big water changes took care of that, and I need to keep a better eye on it.

You can feed your fish other fish - great way to illustrate the food chain. :-)

Um I said that didn't I.
Blame it on poor sleep this week, and an attempt to lower my caffeine intake. (Or shoudl I say increase the % of blood in my caffeine-stream?)
